One of the best things about summer is swimming. But even better? After swimming, picking a tomato, warm from the sun, right off the vine and shoving it in your mouth. No knife or even a salt shaker needed. Forget about making it to the faucet for a rinse.

Tomatoes off the vine; nothing tastes like them.
My parents are seriously gardening challeneged. They couldn't grow weeds if they tried. Needless to say, I never had homegrown tomatoes. What a neat experience for your kids (and the kids who have the good fortune to be their friends!).
as a wanderer, I've had 4 strangers give me tomatoes after I admired them --which I ate on the spot.
(I admired the tomatoes, not the strangers, although the people were quite admirable)
