Garden Blogger's Bloom Day - April 2010

Those daffodil bulbs my mom sent me for my birthday last summer are really paying off now! A few weeks ago, the pale yellow ones seemed like the only ones that were planning on appearing, but now it's starting to get interesting. Thanks, Mom!  I may have to do a separate post about the tulips -they haven't quite hit their stride yet.
Frances at Fairegarden had a great post a week or so ago about daffodils and named lots of varieties. Evenutally I hope to get around to identifying all of these.




Karen, at Greenwalks had a post about Pink Pieris Japonica - looked a lot like this, but pink.  Karen, here is my plant.  It's not Mountain Laurel (Kalmia) after all - I do have one, but it's not blooming yet.

Lungwort's (pulmonaria) flowers change from pink to light blue!


I've never had success with it before, but I'm giving English Daisy (Bellis perennis) another try.

    Beautiful blooms, Jen! Love are your double and single daffys, oh and the andromeda too. At my childhood home there was a pink/purple one on the side and a white one in the front. Those tiny pendulous flowers are so charming.

    Your mom's choice in daffodils is delightful - what a beautiful color. The double daffodils are stunning - they look like they have their party dresses on! I don't have any daffodils and I can't really figure out why I quit forgetting to add them. You garden looks so happy and spring-like, JGH. Things are slowly picking up here and yesterday the wild violets opened and the hyacinth finally decided to be brave.

    My dafs pretty much passed out from heat exhaustion. I have the same pieris, and yesterday brought in bouquets of fragrant lilac.The sweet woodruff is in bloom & some shrubs with pink flowers, and that's about it for my yard.
    Yesterday at Bear Mountain I kept smelling heavenly scents but couldn't place them... some flowering shrubs there near the museums -- maybe vibernum and some early honeysuckle bushes? I think I saw cherry blossoms too.

    I am feeling far too lazy to do a bloom day post again this month, but I am enjoying yours! Thanks for the link. :) That does look like pieris, in my inexpert opinion. Kalmia has rounded, cup-shaped flowers as far as I recall from my parents' garden. Love your daffs! I have some of those but don't recall their names either! I am so bad about that... happy spring, can't wait to see your tulips.

    Hi Jen, what a beauty of a daffodil your mother gave you! Those colors are stupendous. You have fabulous blooms for this month's bloom sharing day. The bellis is so cute, isn't it a biennial, so it would die after blooming each year. Still worth growing, like so many biennials, my favorite being the foxgloves. Thanks for the linkage! :-)

    Wow...the Daffodil named Apr10+006.JPG is absolutely stunning. I have never seen a Daffodil like that.

    PS I wonder if #3 (and 4, back view??) is Sir Winston Churchill... is it fragrant? I think that's what mine is and it looks very similar. It's been a pretty good repeater for me, so I need to get more next fall!
