How to Make a Toad House

You can make a toad house out of an old or broken flowerpot.  Dig a hole about twice the size of the pot.  Turn it on its side.  Add a bed of leaves.

Make sure you label it, so people who come across it know what it is.  Use permanent marker so that it doesn’t get washed off in the rain.

You can decorate it .

Add rocks.

For a luxury touch, add fluff from a cattail.

Other treats?

You might add a dish of water for the toad or frog to spash around in.

These were made by our afterschool gardening class.  This, and lots of other great projects designed to attract wildife to your garden, are in this book.

Frogs and toads become scarce when the weather gets cold.  What kind of critters do you find in your backyard this time of year?

Toad houses - how cool is that? My kids would have loved these if I'd known about them. We have a big toad who lives under a rock in the garden. I sort of protect him from Charlie (she won't hurt him, but she has to sniff him and bug him).

What a neat book. I'll be checking that one out. Thanks, JGH!

Very charming, instead of HGTV, a little bit of HGB (Home and Garden Blog) going on here :)

That is such a cute idea! I've never seen a toad in my backyard, although we hear them. Or maybe they are frogs. Anyway, this is cute.

Very cool! It's wonderful your school children get to do activities like this that get them out in nature.

We missed the toads this year. We've had them here for a few years since I convinced the Lawn Man to stop using chemicals.

I am excited to find another tip on how to do something for the little creatures that help us with gardening. I will surely try this next year!

I also think it is great that you teach kids to value nature.

Did you know you're one of my heroines?
It's the little (and not so little)things you do, step by step, to caretake the planet.

Man's first job.
Blessings, dear one.
