Garden Bloggers Bloom Day: 9/15/08 in Nyack, NY

Carol, who has one of the best gardening blogs around, May Dreams Gardens, hosts "Garden Bloggers Bloom Day" on the 15th of every month. This is my second time participating, and I hope to do so regularly. If you're a garden blogger, and have posted for Bloom Day, please be sure to leave a comment so I know where to visit you!

Here's Miss B. with a bouquet of some of the flowers clipped from my garden today - zinnia, pentas, purple hyacinth bean, sedum, and a little lemon verbena to add some fragrance.

Portulaca, still seeking that sun.... I keep pinching this back and it keeps blooming.

Hydrangeas are one of the few flowers that sometimes look more beautiful as they age.....

This is the back of a chocolate cherry sunflower. Doesn't it look like paintbrush strokes? I don't remember much from art history class, but I do remember that the phrase "painterly quality" was used often. This flower has it. And finally some marigolds, which have performed outstandingly considering that I pretty much ignored them all summer...

And now (below) -- a call for help! Can you help me identify any of these mystery flowers that live in New Mexico?

I like the idea of "painterly quality". Something to strive for! Thanks for joining in for bloom day.

You are so right about Hydrangeas, they do age beautifully....I have never tried portulaca, I might have to it seems that there is a long bloom time.

Cute pup with the pretty posies. I agree about the painterly quality of the sunflower. That's a good reminder to look at all sides of a flower, not just the pretty face.

Thank you for the lovely comment over on my blog. Actually, I would say, yes, get a trampoline! It's a great way for the kids to have fun and get some exercise. When mine were younger, they played on it all the time. They're only moaning now because they feel obliged to moan about everything I do. Otherwise they wouldn't be real teenagers, would they? :D

That's the beauty of marigolds - they can take a little cold shoulder! We planted a small hydrangea bush last spring - is there anything we need to do to it for over the winter?

Beautiful bloom show in your garden. And ain't it funny, with some plants (individuals too), the more you ignore them , the more they try to impress you. In the end they all succeed. Thanks for all the great photos!
