CONGRATULATIONS, KAVYA!
The E girl and I were flipping through channels the night before last and stumbled onto the Scripps National Spelling Bee broadcast on ESPN. We were immediately riveted. The tension, the drama! The elation and choking back of tears! We were disappointed when our favorite Kavya Shivashankar was eliminated, but Sahmeer Mishra was just plain A-M-A-Z-I-N-G.
After seeing our hero Adam Lambert mysteriously defeated by Kris Allen on American Idol, it was nice to see true talent validated. (Don’t get me wrong – Kris is adorable and talented, but Adam is in a whole ‘nother league!)

Congrats to the spelling bee winner! My son participated in the county spelling bee-and oh the pressure on those kids. Can't believe how good they all are. Lambert performed on The Today Show. Pretty good though I do not watch Idol. Can't weigh in on the debate.
I love it when I come across one of those spelling bees. "Country of origin?" "Use in a sentence please?" It's really intriguing how riveting they can be! With Idol over, as well as Grey's and Friday Night Lights, not much tv viewing here, we generally don't watch much in the summer. Mostly when we're just exhausted and crash in front of it for a few hours here and there.
I love the spelling bee. I'm so glad ESPN picked it up. We have ESPN on all day in our home office. This is so stupid, but I couldn't figure out why they were showing the spelling be bloopers over and over again. Those kids are so precious, they say what they really mean.
I have never watched a single minute of American Idol, and my only regret is that I sound smug when I say that. My TV viewing is limited to: The Daily Show & The Colbert Report; Seinfeld reruns; DVDs of Curb Your Enthusiasm. My guilty pleasures are snippets of Chris Matthews and Rachel Maddow on MSNBC. I used to love Keith Olbermann but he's gotten too show-bizzy for me. Sort of a left-leaning Rush Limbaugh.
Long live spelling bees! We need them more than ever because of our new technology that allows, even encourages slip-shod spelling and grammar.
If you haven't seen the movie Spellbound, a documentary film about the National Bee, run right out and grab a copy. It is about soo soo much more.
tv?! I have to admit, I watch The View as a break. There, I've said it.
In the spelling bee the son of a colleague came in 4th - and third place was from Springfield IL - - Go Central Illinois!!

I missed the speling bee and am sory I did, it's won ov my favrite thinks to wach. latly Ive been watching late late with craig ferguson he has puppets.
Master Chef! Love it. Young Aussies in an idol style cooking show, judges and all. And - you are actually shown how to make a few things.
Sorry, haven't come across the Spelling Bee comp shows here, so can't comment. As for Idol, we get the Aus version, that I watch the first couple and last couple of shows of the series.
Tina, most of those kids are amazingly composed considering the pressure, aren't they?
Joanne, never got into Greys but some of my friends are real die-hard fans. I may have to rent the box set.
