Welcome Allium!

Allium aflatunenense. This is probably the flower that I’ve looked forward to seeing more than any other in my garden this year.

I love the bumpy shape of the buds – you just know something fancy is percolating inside…

They are relatives of onion and garlic, which make them super deer resistant. I'll be planting more of these in the places where my tulips got gobbled this year.

They are perennial and hardy in zones 4-7.

The bulbs can be fairly expensive, but these were purchased with a gift certificate to Klehm’s Song Sparrow.

Purple Sensation Allium.

What popped up in your garden this week?

Wonderful! I ordered some of these from Brecks for planting this fall. I don't have them. I like your progression. New plants coming each day and I am behind on everything so woe is me. ttyl

Wow, what an intricate purple flower there! We plan on tilling and planting our tomato patch next week, with a little zucchini and lettuce thrown in, marigolds around the border. It's a little happy place we grow!

Ouuu!!! I love those flowering onions. Martha Stewart had incredible photos of them in her garden. They looked person height. What the heck does she put on those things?!

Lovely; so many purple and pinks now, aren't there? My sage is blossoming.

Klehm's is a wonderful nursery, isn't it, Jen? I love their peonies! And I love your book list! I've already added a couple of must-finds to mine after looking it over. Thanks!

Oh, those are so great! I have tried them but think maybe we don't have the right drainage for them to do very well. I got some of the gigantic globe ones (Christofii or something like that?) one year but they didn't return. Congrats on yours! Hm, my winter veggies are bolting, does that count as flowers? Self-seeding violas and pansies are returning, plus cerinthe and poppies bloomed recently also from volunteers. First calendula was this week too. Summer's coming day by day!
