The Snow Setting

Although we obsessively checked the cancellations.com website 667 times yesterday morning, no school delay was posted.

My steep driveway and little culdesac were covered in white and the steep hill that I live on hadn’t been plowed.

Still, the kids needed to get to school.

Outside, it was a gingerbread village.

I saw it as an opportunity to scope around and play with the “snow” setting on my camera! (As readers of this blog know, I’m not a real serious photographer, and it’s a skill I hope to put more time into someday.)

I'm the type who switches back and forth from “landscape” to “snow” with every intention of comparing them later, and then promptly forgets which one is which once they’re loaded into the viewer.

The wind is blowing all the blobs of snow off the trees now.  The gingerbread effect was short-lived.

Be careful out there in the ice and snow!

Very nice pictures! We had essentially the same snow storm here in DC, just a bit earlier. When I peeked out of the window at 7 AM every limb, branch, and twig was coated with ice and snow. The sun was bright and everything glistened. I said "I should get my camera," but my body said "get back in bed." So I did. (Oh, and in this area the kids DID get a 2-hour delay. SAP for DC.)

It's a good old-fashioned January, isn't it? I just came back from a walk through the neighborhood, wearing hiking boots, jeans, 2 sweaters, a parka, headband, scarf and gloves, and the cold still went right through me! But I like it, the change of seasons and all. Enjoy!

I love it when the snow clings to every nook and cranny and highlights the gorgeous architecture of the bare branches.

The sixth photo down is gorgeous!

Pretty to look at, a pain to drive in. Be safe!

We were also hugely disappointed about the lack of a snow day.

I love your photos! We just had a low of 19 degrees in South Texas. No ice or snow though. So nothing to photograph!
Blessings,

Indeed, it does look like a gingerbread village. Your photos came out great. They have a lot of ambiance.

You are so right to warn everyone to be careful in the snow and ice. It is bad. I took a fall in my own driveway-ouch! That being said it sure is pretty. Cool santas on your front porch? Very neat! Did you make them?

Oh I love the seedheads with the building behind! I had to laugh at your description of settings and forgetting which was which. That is exactly what I do to. I have given up, it's auto all the time for me now. Sorry there was no school delay or cancel, bummer! :-)

You captured my view out the window, though the temps aren't near so dramatic!

May you savor these scenes, just like a hot cup of cocoa!!
