Flower Show Highlights

On Friday, the VCE "Gardenators" potted up their plants for the Nyack Garden Club's Community Flower Show, held at Upper Nyack Elementary School on Saturday.  Here they are in our school courtyard with their plants.   The "Gardenators" are extracurricular -- this is an afterschool enrichment class.

At the Flower Show, though, several classrooms participated -- all of them winning First Place!

The individual children's entries were very creative.

There were dinosaurs...
Princesses...
Frosting and marshmallows.....
Hand-crocheted bunnies...

And even a honeycomb.

As a new Garden Club member, one of my duties was to clerk for a judge in the Adult Design division. I knew next to nothing about flower arranging -- it was a great crash course!

One of the themes was "Mardi Gras."

A few Plant Divison favorites...

All of the "Gardenator" projects won a Second
 or Third Place ribbon!

I'm so proud of our little group, whose plants were all grown from seed and have been nurtured in our greenhouse since February.   Congratulations to all the winners!!

The talent is in all of them, waiting for a suitable time to emerge. That talent and creativity is definitely an asset that will carry them far into the future. ~bangchik

The range of creativity is impressive. Marshallows and frosting? Mardi Gras? Wow, those kids are really fun.

You had a hard job judging Jen. That is one job no one ever ever wants but it is necessary for sure. The gardenators is such a cute name! Congrats to all the winners.

An after-school garden club? How cool is that?! Love the Mardi Gras head garden. Wacky fun!

PS The tree lecture was fun but the Festival was only a one-off, apparently. They are doing more of a seminar-type thing this year, more serious, no Chatauqua. :( I'm the only one in my family who wants to go to stuff like that either, I usually have to drag everyone or go on my own!
