Fruitful

I will not die an unlived life.
I will not live in fear
of falling or catching fire.

I choose to inhabit my days
to allow my living to open me,
to make me less afraid,
more accessible,

to loosen my heart
until it becomes a wing,
a torch, a promise.

I choose to risk my significance;
to live so that which came to me as seed
goes to the next as blossom

and that which came to me as blossom,
goes on as fruit.

-Dawna Markova

This is one of my favorite entries in our little book of graces "A Grateful Heart: Daily Blessings for the Evening Meal from Buddha to the The Beatles."

I was excited to share it, but thought it might make sense for me to find out a little bit more about the author first.  How wonderful to stumble upon her website, "A Spot of Grace," listen to some of the stories featured there, and learn about Dr. Markova's distinguished career.  Among her many credits is the co-editing the Random Acts of Kindness series, and the SmartWired approach to learning.

What a beautiful verse. The visual that comes to me as I begin it is of an eagle. To live that life in Markova's words is to soar, really.

Beautiful! And so true - we sometimes forget we have the choice in how we approach every minute of our lives.

A very nice sentiment for sure. The concrete angel is so melancholy.

wonderful sentiments in this writing. And I love the way she uses plant metaphors of seed, blossom and fruit, emphasizing that we humans are part of the natural world. Thanks for sharing this.
