What's Blooming Now in Nyack

Helleborus
Here it is May, and other than the daffodils, we didn't have much bursting forth here until the past couple of weeks.  It was slow to warm up and, being high on a hill, my house seems to have a microclimate that delays blooms even further. I snapped this photo of a new hellebore bloom last week. Here you can see it in the background behind some grape hyacinth.

Muscari armeniacum

A few narcissi are still in bloom, believe it or not.

Lilies-of-the-valley are so happy in the shady spot under one of our big trees.  They're spreading at a very comfortable speed.  Jocelyn, at The Home Tome, is also growing them.  (A new Nyack blog to follow!)
Convallaria magalis

Also in the little white flower category are these forget-me-nots.
Myosotis sylvatica

Speedwell (Veronica)

Euphorbia  (Thanks to Tina from In the Garden, I finally got this identified!)

Creeping Phlox (Phlox subulata)

Tulipa humilus (Persian Pearl)

Tulipa

"Black" Tulips- actually, they're very dark burgundy- even the pollen!

Columbine (Aquilegia)

Allium "Purple Sensation"

Who can forget the tree?  The Flowering Cherry (Prunus serrulata)  was finally cut back.  I didn't even have to rake up the petals this year!

You've got some really beautiful blooms there in spite of the microclimate and chilly weather. Those pure white daffodils are spectacular. I see you have the little veronica too! Thanks so much for identifying mine. I'm thrilled to know what it is. It brings back such fond memories of my friend Meg. She had it in her garden, and put it in just about every garden, including containers, of every client of hers whose gardens I've visited. It was one of her 'signature plants,' and I never asked her what it was.

It's such a gentle, pretty time of year. I just put my tomato seedlings in the garden yesterday, I hope they survive the deluge of rain this week :/

That hellebore is such a deep dark color. It looks luscious.

Ack, Lily of the Valley is invasive down here! I can't get rid of them in the my little flower plot at the community garden.

Wow - those tulips are beautiful - and I LOVE the allium - they look like space-age houses or like something out of Dr. Suess' world - I noticed a little community of them around the Conger's town sign. I would like to try and grow them. Question is: do deer like to snack on them?

Thanks so much for the shout out!

Garden Girl, thanks. Funny how plants can help us remember people. My great-grandmother was queens anne's lace. My grandmother was pansy. My mom is orchid.
