Sirius Singing During Morning Commute

My job has me commuting to and from Manhattan at very different times of day, several times a week, sometimes spending an hour or more in the car.  At times those commutes can be very….subdued.  Sleepy even.  Sleepy on a highway is never good, though.    We don’t want sleepy, but there is a cure: Sirius 70’s on 7.   I believe in miracles, since you came along, you sexy thing.   Hot Chocolate is better than coffee!   If you don’t believe me, just watch this video and try to keep from smiling.

I can’t remember where I put my keys or what I had for lunch yesterday, but I remember every word to Jim Croce’s “You Don’t Mess Around With Jim” and lots of ther songs on channel 7.   Sometimes, when I’ve had too much Hall and Oates, I flip over to the 80’s channel, the 90’s channel, the Loft or the Pulse, but it’s just not the same.  The songs lack the relentless bounciness that the 70s songs bring to the airwaves.  These are the songs that got me through puberty and my early teens.  We are family.  I got all my sisters with me.    Before I discovered the boys of ELO, Boston, Styx, Journey and Foreigner, these were the girls that got the best of my love.

Now check out this video. See the ladies at 28, 55, yes even 117 and 137 seconds?  These are the moves that I attempt to do while seated in my car when I listen to this song.  When stopped in traffic, the gyrations have the potential to attract the attention of other drivers.  I pay them no mind.

So who is coming with me to the 70s karaoke roulette tournament? Break out the Abba, the Captain and Tennille and the Dr. Hook.

I’m sitting in a station wagon in a long line of traffic on the Tappan Zee Bridge, the blinding sun in my eyes.   The man in the car next to me is angrily yelling into his cellphone. Beautiful luxury homes rise above the river on both sides.  The people who live in those exclusive homes are drinking their coffee, reading the paper, petting their cats, and looking leisurely out over the water.  I wonder what they’re listening to.  If it’s not "Lady Marmalade," they can’t possibly be any happier than I am.

My parents had the 8 tracks to all of Jim Croce - I know every line to every song! It's funny, same with me, I can't remember what I ate for dinner last night but I can remember the lyrics to the songs from my youth

What a fun post! Not a big 70s fan myself (okay, early 70s) but I do know every song you mentioned. Isn't it amazing how the right music can wake you right up? Just keep on dancing...but maybe skip the hustle while in the car!
