Arrow Park - Sterling Forest

These pictures are from our favorite swimming hole. We've been there a few times this summer and while we were there this past Sunday a woman approached us and asked us to spread the word about the park. The park needs the visitor's fees to pay for maintenance. And borscht. Yes, you read that correctly. One of the things on their menu in the cafeteria is borscht.

Do not try to rent a rowboat if you're slurring and holding an empty vodka bottle - it spoils it for the rest of us. One guy last weekend scared the staff into closing the whole rowboat operation.

Shall we just reveal right now that the water is not exactly what you'd call pristine? Especially if you are used to swimming in the type of swimming hole edged in concrete. Here you will find seaweed, mud and maybe even a bit of goose poop.

Bring a fishing pole and find a secluded nook.

Looks like a very inviting place; I bet it's noticeably cooler there, too.

No one needs a vodka-soaked individual around to ruin the day!

This looks like a great, old-fashioned place! Where we're swimming isn't too pristine this summer either - oh my gosh the jellyfish have driven us all out of the water :( But I like the idea of a rowboat, with a thermos of lemonade!

What a pretty park. It's so nice to have a favorite local swimming hole. It's the essence of a perfect summer day.

You are a fun family and it's nice of you to take the nature of poo right along with the good fishing. We have the canadian geese around here and they supply us with lots of excitement and torment. That is a really pretty park. I hope they get more visitors and folks eating that dish you described. I never heard of it.

Joanne, I heard the jellyfish are all over the place this year. Pack the meat tenderizer.

Anna, borscht is beet soup - can be served hot or cold. Sometimes with a dollop of sour cream.

Ched, just let me know if you'd like directions to Arrow park. There is a big sign that says NO DOGS but it doesn't say anything about cats!!
