Kid Friendly Recipe: Apple Berry Tart

It would be nice to be able to say that I do everything from scratch when I bake with my kids, but the truth is that the project often involves some kind of pre-made dough or mix. It could be a pie crust, cake mix, roll of sugar cookie dough, filo or pizza crust. I planned to make this recipe years ago when the kids were toddlers because it looked like an easy way to make little pies. We've always wanted to try it, but somehow never got around to it until this year. Here's the pre-made dough product in use today:

Pillsbury Crescent Rolls. (Reduced Fat is an option!)

You'll also need:
One apple
6 tablespoons of berry flavored apple sauce
1 teaspoon of sugar
1 teaspoon of cinnamon

1) Parents pre-heat oven to 400 degrees
2) Have kids pre-grease a 6-cup muffin tin

3) Unroll the crescent rolls from tube and separate into 2 rectangles. Roll the rectangles with a rolling in and/or press with fingers to seal the perforations.

4) Using a 3" round cookie cutter or jelly jar, cut 3 circles from each rectangle. Press dough into each of the muffin cups.

5) Peel, core and thinly slice apple. Divide among dough lined cups.

6) Top each apple cup with 1 tablespoon of applesauce. (You can also use a few fresh berries here if you have them.)

7) Mix the cinnamon and sugar together and sprinkle over the cups.

8) Roll the leftover dough into twelve 3" strips and use them to form an X shape over each tart.

9) Bake 15 to 20 minutes or until golden brown.. Cool before eating.

These look so cute! And I'm not much of a cook, so it's the type of recipe I like, with help from pre-made ingredients. Thanks! (They seem like they'd have a great baking aroma).
