The bus picked us up near Union Square. We arrived early and took a few minutes to browse the holiday market. This market has grown in size to where it now takes up most of the south end of the park.
We sped through the tunnel and started in Bay Ridge, where the lighting was more “tasteful.”
On to Dyker Heights...This is the house of Lucy, who started the “cover your house in Christmas” tradition, despite the initial resistance of her neighbors. (And here’s where it starts to get a little crazy!)
Santa was on hand for photos and lollies.
This house featured Nutcracker figurines.
Tony called these little skaters “the snow babies.”
Have a look at what one very ambitious guy did with his house - and his in-law's house next door.
It gets cold walking the windy streets after dark. The windchill factor on the night we visited had us stomping around in 2 degree weather. Off we went to Mona Lisa Bakery, where exquisite pastries, coffees and hot chocolates were waiting to warm us up.
A highlight of the night for me came at the end, when Tony played clips from “Christmas with Bing Crosby and Frank Sinatra," and an Andy William Christmas special on the bus ride back. But my favorite was this priceless from an old Sonny and Cher special.

Nice pictures! I was there a few years ago on Christmas day and it was so crowded. But it was definitely worth the trip.
What beautiful pictures. Those wonderful light displays would get anyone into the Christmas spirit. Thank you so much for sharing them. I am partial to the blue light display.
OMG what a happy tour! Only in New York! I particularly enjoyed the size of the choir in one of those yards. That's a whole latte carolers! Oh, and the reindeer on the upper porch. I'll bet you had a grand time. I love getting into the Christmas spirit like this, all in good fun with a twinkle in your eye. Thanks for taking us along.

There's a house just south of the village of Closter NJ that goes insane every year. you could almost walk to it from the village, i wish i could recall the street--maybe parallel to herbert ave. in the residential area. it's a corner house with a fence--they fill their big yard with stuff at halloween too.
sorry i meant north of Closter, going back to Nyack.
i like Cher's blouse it reminds me of ribbon candy.

Tut, it costs $65 to ride the bus but anyone can enjoy just driving by in the car, too.

Edward, I usually get lost driving in Jersey, but if I'm ever in Closter, I'll look for that house. Did you catch the flub where Sonny messed up the words for Rudolph? - Chastity had the cutest reaction!
